CRUISE SHIP BUILDING CONTEST WINNERS
When we announced our Norwegian Cruise Line® LEGO® Cruise Ship Building Challenge, we had no idea how many talented ship-builders were out there.

You guys and gals created so many great models that we were almost washed overboard by all the photos and letters!

We had a lot of trouble narrowing down the finalists (keep your eyes peeled for LEGO Club interviews with some of our favorites, coming soon!), but in the end, there could only be three winners of the once-in-a-lifetime Norwegian Cruise Line Caribbean cruise prize…and here they are!

COLE D. - WINNER AGES 6-9
Cole is six years old and loves to build with LEGO bricks. His ship model includes a swimming pool and a water slide, four lifeboats, and 64 windows.

Cole’s Essay:
My name is Cole D. I am 6 years old and I like to build things from LEGO [bricks]. I built this cruise ship because I want to take my family on a cruise. My ship has a deep swimming pool on the top deck with a water slide. It also has 64 windows, 4 life boats, one life boat is called a night life boat. It has 2 smoke stacks and a radar on top that spins. I tried my best. I hope you like it.
KEITH O. – WINNER AGES 10-14
Keith, 13, named his ship the “Norwegian Tropical Palm.” It features an indoor amusement park, a movie theater, and a water park with interconnecting pools.
Keith’s Essay:
Welcome to Norwegian Cruise Line. My name is Keith O. and I will be your tour guide today. We will be visiting the Norwegian Tropical Palm, the luxurious 12 story ship. This cruise departs from Honolulu, Hawaii. Guest rooms include small [hot tubs] and a large variety of food and drinks available from room service. You can order anything from sushi to a marinated steak with a side of potatoes. You may also request one of our larger suites that are equipped with a considerable sized balcony.

There is a plethora of enjoyable things to do on board the ship, such as the indoor amusement park that includes a roller coaster, Ferris wheel, and many entertaining games. Outside, on top of the ship, there is also a water park. The water park is made up of two vast enclosed water slides that splash into a refreshing pool that is heated. In fact, there are four pools and eight hot tubs. These connected pools make a lazy ride where you can hop into a tube and relax while gently floating around the track of water. Don’t forget to try for the jackpot in the extravagant casinos. There are 3 different casinos on the Tropical Palm, each one sporting a different theme. Try your luck at various progressive slot machines where you just may be a winner! Every night at the magnificent dinner theater there is a splendid Broadway performance to watch while feasting on delicious food. If you wish, you can also choose to eat at any of our 25 unique restaurants. The Norwegian Tropical Palm has 3 formal dining rooms as well.

Another recreational activity on board the cruise is the two IMAX® theaters. The eight story theaters play all of the recently released movies. The admission is included as well as the popcorn. The Norwegian Tropical Palm is home to the world’s most enormous palm tree. It is planted in the back of the ship, towering seventy feet high. Watch out for falling coconuts! There is something for everyone on board and you will see how quickly time flies when you are having fun! We hope to see you and your family on board the Norwegian Tropical Palm soon!

JADE B., ASPEN B., & FAMILY – WINNER AGES 15+
Jade, Aspen and their family worked together to create their amazing “Norwegian Sunset” cruise ship. Measuring 68 inches long, 16 inches wide, and 22 inches tall, it includes 14 lifeboats and a Captain’s Bridge complete with steering wheel.
The Jade, Aspen, & Family Essay:
Our version of the Norwegian Sun is now the Norwegian Sunset by Jade and Aspen B. With generations of LEGO collecting, LEGO [bricks] dating back to the 1980’s and LEGO building experience, the family joined together in an effort to help build this ship made of approximately 5,600 pieces. 7 & 9 nine year old[s] Jade and Aspen have worked hard with their Papa and Auntie in excess of 42 kid hours, several sleepovers, twelve [kid’s meal] runs, many ice cream and popcorn breaks and desperate borrowing and buying attempts to find more white LEGO [bricks].

The ship is about 68 inches long, 16 inches wide, and 22 inches tall. The opposite side of the ship is a rainbow of LEGO colors due to the shortage of white [bricks]. The ship has 14 lifeboats, a swimming pool, and a captain’s bridge with steering wheel. The girls used a picture of the Norwegian Sun as help to make their “Sunset” the best it could be, along with the facts, fun, and memories of their first cruise last year.

Though this was a huge family adventure and also bonding experience, these two girls worked very hard in the construction and their thoughts and comments are as follows:

“I like to play with LEGO [bricks] because it is exciting to build things. When I play with LEGO [bricks] it is cool to see what I have made when I am finished. We want to go on a cruise ship for a family vacation. We want to go to fun places together.” –Jade B. age 9

“I like LEGO [bricks] because it is so much fun and you could build so much stuff like a ship. I want to go on a cruise because you have fun and because you get a good view of the ocean water.”—Aspen B. age 7

Thanks for giving us yet another excuse to play with LEGO [bricks]!
